Public SWSS mtg on palestine-all welcome
The Gaza Strip is effectively the world’s largest prison camp.
Zionist terror gangs drove its population from their homes during the creation of Israel in 1948.
That event – known in Arabic as the Nakba (catastrophe) – saw 750,000 Palestinians ethnically cleansed. They fled to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and to other countries.
Come to hear Palestinian activist speak on the roots and causes of today's situation in Gaza. Questions and contributions welcome.

The escalating crisis in Palestine has reignited a political debate over the history and nature of Zionism — the ideology of Jewish nationalism that underpins the Israeli state.
In response to the atrocities in Gaza Author and Teacher John rose speaks out.

TONIGHT Newsnight will be filming our meeting...
As you are all aware, SOAS SWSS has been heavily involved in the planning at SOAS to campaign against Israel's illegal invasion of Gaza. Over 150 soas students went on the brilliant demo this weekend BUT we need to keep this up, get our message out and radicalise more students.
Action for Gaza.
EVERY day in JCR we are showing Al-Jazeera LIVE at 5.
Meetings:
1) Tonight, 5.30pm in KLT an Israeli Lecturer is speaking. I have had Newsnight asking me if they can film this and ask students some questions on what the British Government should be doing ie have we learnt from 7/7 bombings and what do we think the ramifications will be if GB does not speak out. CLARIFICATION: The Israeli lecturer, Yousefa Livitsky, is speaking out AGAINST the atrocious attacks on Gaza. Some idiot Zionists who have commented below automatically presumed that i meant we were trying to boycott her event and have called me 'fascist'!!
2) Paper sale. Tuesdayy 12.,30pm on steps. We may do it inside if it is freezing. Please meet us or pop along when your class has finished.
3) UGM. We have two HARD motions submitted and will possibly be calling for further action. This is very important for you to be at.
4) Meeting - The Myths of Zionism
6pm JCR. With John Rose author of book of same title. Please turn up at 5pm to discuss further plans
5) Stop the War fundraiser on Friday night. Rebetiko band. All funds to Gaza. More details of this soon.

Have you ever heard about freedom of speech?
Doubt it.
If anyone wants to do lectures on Tel Aviv, let 'em. If anyone wants to do lectures on Gaza, let 'em. There are two sides to each story, let them be heard.
Your opinion on that is secondary.You are equally fascist as those that you are trying to boycott.

Can China pull us out of the Economic crisis?-public mtg
SOAS SWSS Presents:...- Has China ‘decoupled’ from the West?
- Is China the workshop of the world?
- Is the Chinese economy on course to rival the US?
- Will China be the new Imperial power?
- What do Socialists have to say?
Whilst other capitalist states have been hit hard by the global economic crisis, China doesn't seem to be feeling the effects as much. We'll be asking why that is, and we'll also look at questions like "Will China be the world's new imperial power?", "Is the Chinese economy now rivalling the USA?", "What do socialists say about China?" and, of course, "What about Tibet?". Our speaker will be Alexis Wearmouth.
This will be a really interesting meeting however much or little you know about China, so join us on Wednesday 3rd December, 4.30pm in Room S13 Institute of Education with friends, questions and beer money :)

SWSS update
The fact that loads of SOAS students attended the new members day school on Saturday demonstrates that not only is there a renewed fighting spirit but that it is our politics that can provide answers to the madness that is going on in the world, and students are looking to us for guidance.
We started the term with a variety of events to agitate, educate and organise and our strategy has paid off. We hired the Renoir cinema for a Unite Against Fascism event and over 200 people attended the filmshowing of This is England. We put a call out for immediate action to fight the BNP who were staying in the local area. 30 people stayed behind to start straight away.
They then set up a LMHR society which attracted another 200 sigh-ups at Freshers Fayre. At which, SWSS had a great response.
The following week a Stop the War mtg on Pakistan, Afghanistan & the Spread of War had 55 people followed by plans for a Die-in next Tuesday (tmrw). Jonathon Neal did a brilliant mtg on Climate Change at which we had 65 people.
At a caucus just before our UGM, having already seen us being active on campus, more non-members gathered around us and then clearly followed us when voting. The UGM had about 200 people (our quoracy is only 50) and we passed and opposed some very important motions including unanimous support for both the demonstration at the Bank of England and the People Before Profit Charter, defending staff against job cuts at SOAS, passed a motion condemning the racist persident at Kings and Notthingham colleges, defeated a Disaffiliation from NUS motion, and opposed the upcoming Miss University pageant.
The debate was of a high level and we smashed the right repeatedly getting the loudest cheers. Even though the mtg was 2 1/2 hrs long, and there was plenty of procedural motions and 'taking parts' which confused a lot of new students, we pulled many people with us and we came out buzzing if not bewildered!
We believe the success of the UGM is mainly due to the fact that we have taken student democracy very seriously, have consistently fought to bring back politics into the student movement and shown what can be done when we stand up for the oppressed and exploited.
SOAS SWSS is now raring to go to build for a Die-in on Tuesday and for the direct action against the Bank of England.
