THREE more UK uni's in occupation. Plus video from Manchester occupation

University of The Arts blog

Plymouth University and BAE Systems
BAE Systems have sold equipment to Indonesia, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe and - more specifically - 236 F-16 Fighters to the Israeli state. In February 2007 it was announced that BAE contracts in 6 countries were under investigation by the Serious Fraud Office for "suspected international corruption."

Noam Chomsky has been a trooper keeping up with all the occupations and sending messages of support to ALL of them...here's what he sent to Cardiff.

Cardiff Students Against War has just received a message of support from the legendary Noam Chomsky!!

I am very pleased to learn about the courageous and honorable actions of the Cardiff University students. These are particularly significant because of the Britain's role in arms sales generally, and it's contribution to the savage onslaught on Gaza and on the occupied territories generally, second only to the decisive role of the United States -- a disgrace for all of us. I hope you have the greatest success in arousing public opinion and bringing these crimes to an end.

Noam Chomsky

Obviously this is a massive boost to our morale after a rough first night on the cold, hard lecture theatre steps. Thank you Noam!

Essex Occupation demands

JOIN THE OCCUPATION!SOLIDARITY WITH THE SUFFERING IN PALESTINE!

Since 6.30pm on Friday 16th January, students at The University of Essex have taken control of the LTB, and are making demands to the University. Those demands are outlined below. Some of these demands have been met, such as a commitment from the University to send any surplus resources it may have to the University of Gaza, which was bombed to pieces by Israel. However, The University has not made enough commitments and the occupation has continued. We must continue until the University  ecognises the scale of the disaster in Palestine and takes a strong position in favour of humanity.

Our Demands to the University:

1.        The University of Essex should release a statement condemning the Israeli attack on Gaza which has killed over 1000 people in the last 2 and a half weeks

2.        The University of Essex must provide 5 full scholarships to students from Palestine, beginning the next academic year. At a University with such a diverse student body, Palestinian students are hugely unrepresented when compared with other groups.

3.        The University of Essex administration should facilitate a 'fundraising day' where buckets will be in every lecture and seminar to collect money for the charity Medical Aid for Palestinians. [1]

4.        The University of Essex should help to rebuild the University of Gaza, which was bombed 6 times on the 28th December 2008.[1] It should send any surplus books, computers or other resources as a way of helping the suffering students and staff in Gaza.

5.        Finally, any and every student involved in this campaign will not face victimisation or reprisals as a result of their work. Students have a right to protest and voice their opinions through peaceful means. A university should in fact encourage freedom of expression.

Solidarity from Derry, Northern Ireland

Jan 5th marks 40 years since the slogan You Are Now Entering Free Derry first adorned 22 lecky road, as a symbol of resistance to oppression and occupation.

In 2009, unveiled by the Cerry anti-war coalition, the wall has again been transformed as an act of solidarity, this time with the citizens of Gaza.

Israel is committing a shocking series of atrocities by using modern weaponry against a defenceless population - attacking a population that has been enduring a severe blockade for many months.
UN Representative Richard Falk

"There is a humanitarian crisis. It's impossible to say how many innocent women, innocent children and innocent babies are being caught up in this conflict, who are being maimed and killed. This offensive must stop." -

First hand coverage of attacks on Gaza.

The BBC say they cant get any footage because they cant get into Gaza: poppy cock-with so much technology available they could easily get someone to stream something live just like i did (included in the post below this one) on today's demo from a measly little mobile phone...

Great article on blog about gaza protests

Haim Brasheeth
This policeman just noticed that a police car was used to advertise peace, by some of the protesters who passed by it. As I passed, and noticed him rearranging it into CAPE! I asked if the police is against peace on principle, a question which almost cost me an arrest…Policeman rearranging PEACE in CAPE! on his car

Help from fellow bloggers and/or IT savvy people please...

Sign yourself up to Jaiku if you want to kept up-to-date  with political activity for FREE. Or keep checking my blog. I'm off to the Israeli Embassy again now but will send updates via Jaiku which is located towards the bottom of my page.

We have found a service, www.Qik.com that allows users to send images and videos directly to my blog from on-the-road but need a decent phone - any suggestions?

Updates from Egypt protests

Comrade Hossam has been sending updates all morning about what's going on over there.  I am adding them to this article regularly so keep checking if you need to know more.

I think the messages are self-explanatory: basically, Mubarak and his pro-West/neo-con government are using heavy tactics to intimidate and paralyse any opposition. Hossam's blog is down at the mo, Bandwidth exceeded apparently but keep trying.
