This weekend festival of events, which has just been announced, looks excellent. Here's the summary you can find on the Facebook Event, but I recommend you also look at either Facebook or the website for the full timetable.

'10 years ago, in November 1999 an alliance of direct action activists, environmentalists and trade unionists shut down the meeting of the World Trade Organisation in Seattle, stopping the next trade round of Capitalist Globalisation. In the process they sparked a Movement of Movements right across the globe - its slogan became ‘Another World is Possible’.

This November, exactly 10 years from that momentous demonstration, and with most of the predictions of the movements rapidly coming true with the crisis of the economy, a permanent state of war and the collapse of our eco-system wrecking lives across the planet, the rich and powerful meet again in Copenhagen to discuss the next Climate treaty after Kyoto. Yet again activists are preparing to challenge the idea that the Market can solve the problems of the world, and take another step toward that possible world after Capitalism.

Sign of Revolt is an exhibition that weaves together the story of the past decade's social movements, drawing out the influences and connections between and across the movements against Capitalism, War and Climate Change. Using archive material and documentary photography and video from movement photographers and filmmakers, it reveals the story of how we get from Seattle to Copenhagen.

Interspersed in this narrative are works by artist and designer activists and collectives, produced during, within and for the movements, this is the first time such a collection has been brought together in the UK and it will be a chance to reflect upon and celebrate the new creative impulses that the movements spawned and the possibilties for developing the creative capacity of future movements, these issues will also be discussed in greater depth during a series of talks during the exhibition.

As capitalism threatens our very existence, Signs of Revolt defiantly maps out possible routes to a future filled with hope…

MUTINY invites you to put MONEY ON TRIAL...

Mutiny presents a series of carnivalesque evenings providing live entertainment and meaningful debates. We are a network of activists who have come together to create an exciting, safe space for discussion, critical theory and alternative media.

Our debut event, Money on Trial, takes place on Thursday, September 24.


There will be three main themes:
Has money destroyed the music business;
Can the money markets deliver on climate change and
Can the government be trusted with our money?

A taste of what can be expected: leader of Pirate Party UK on the implications of filesharing and the onslaught of government reforms trying to be introduced; a showing of the brilliant Greenpeace film A Time Comes about the occupation of Kingsnorth directed by Nick Broomfield; the latest Vestas film from Reel News, a cameo performance from Victory, a hip hop star from the People’s Army collective and comedy from Kate Smurthwaite.

Plus art exhibits from Anna Logophobia, Green artist Kat Austen and the Young Unknowns.

The best part, however, is the audience. I mean, what do we know about anything? We need you to join the Mutiny.

Doors and bar open at 6pm with music and the performances start at 7pm so get there early.

Mutiny presents a series of carnivalesque evenings providing live entertainment and meaningful debates. We are a network of activists who have come together to create an exciting, safe space for discussion, critical theory and alternative media.

We want to change the world. We want to see an end to the carbon economy, to the global dominance of the American military complex and sweatshops abroad and call centres in the UK. At the same time we want to spend an evening with friends, enjoying a drink and the spectacle of alternative films and documentaries, performances and poetry, comedy and art instillations.

We have booked the avant-garde Resistance Gallery hidden away under the railway tracks in London's Bethnal Green for a series of On Trial events. The intimate space will host a stage for live performances, a mezzanine for photography and art and a central table for interviews and contributions from the audience. We have 150 tickets and one of them has your name on it.

We are completely open to new ideas. So if you are a political performer with talent and a message drop us a line now. If you are a gang of mates who want a good night out without being bombarded with naked women, football commentary or half-baked reactionary comedy you know where to come. If you are an activist with a stack of flyers for an up-coming direct action bring them along.

Our debut event, Money on Trial, takes place on Thursday, September 24.

Help Thomas Cook sit-in protesters against police

Just been sent LINK to LIVE streaming from inside the shop. Well done for the creative reporting.

Workers occupying the Thomas Cook shop in Dublin today defied a High Court order, requested by the Company, to vacate the shop. They have now been told that the police will arrive and arrest anyone who is still in the shop. They will have to appear in court and be given a prison sentance.

After an emotional discussion when solicitors told the mainly female workers, two of whom are pregnant, the workers decided that they would remain in the shop and not be bullied by Thomas Cook.

A rally was held this morning with supporters ranging from the Lord Mayor to striking Dublin dockers.

We are now asking people to come to Grafton Street when they can to protect the workers inside in case the police turn up.

We will be holding another rally at 10am outside the shop. It is vital we have as many people as we can- please spread the word.

We are headline news and need to keep up the momentum!

Also, please phone in any talk radio shows to tell them that Thomas Cook are behaving dispicably by threatening to jail innocent workers.

Historical Materialism is a high level conference with some fabulous speakers right on our dorrsteps at SOAS this weekend.

Sessions on Adorno-Emancipatory praxis and conceptuality in Adorno: Some notes on the time of insurrection. One on "All that is fluid is frozen to stone: sex, individuality, non-identity"

Vygotsky, Gramsci, Zizek, Althusser, Lucaks, Orientalism, Postcolonialism, New left in Palestine and much more.

It suggests a donation for entrance but you could blag it if you bemoan the fact that we are studying at universties in a neo-liberal world; (correct this time? please, please say yes) fees, kids, having to work etc!!

A walking tour and talk in the City of London, taking in landmarks of capitalist crisis past and present - organised by Mute magazine

(Writer) Fabian Tompsett and (Historian) Peter Linebaugh will guide a tour around the City relating the contemporary financial crisis to those of previous eras (such as the 1720 South Sea Bubble), using the urban fabric as text.

With all the new rules regarding incapacity benefits, family tax credits, income support and the silly rule that does not allow the few asylum seekers and refugees that are in the UK to work, we will soon be 1 in 10 unable to earn enough to support ourselves, let alone our families...UB40 could have written these lyrics right now.

Following from our brilliant protest outside the Bank of England a further protest has been called for Halloween night.

VENTURE CAPITALISM

You have two cows.

You sell three of them to your publicly listed company, using letters of credit opened by your brother-in-law at the bank, then execute a debt-equity swap with an associated general offer so that you get all four cows back, with a tax exemption for five cows.

The milk rights of the six cows are transferred via an intermediary to a Cayman Island Company secretly owned by the majority shareholder who sells the rights to all seven cows back to your listed company. The annual report says the company owns eight cows, with an option on one more. You sell one cow to buy a new president of the United States, leaving you with nine. The public then buys your bull.
