The Gaza Strip is effectively the world’s largest prison camp.
Zionist terror gangs drove its population from their homes during the creation of Israel in 1948.
That event – known in Arabic as the Nakba (catastrophe) – saw 750,000 Palestinians ethnically cleansed. They fled to the Gaza Strip, the West Bank and to other countries.
Come to hear Palestinian activist speak on the roots and causes of today's situation in Gaza. Questions and contributions welcome.

Can China pull us out of the Economic crisis?-public mtg
SOAS SWSS Presents:...- Has China ‘decoupled’ from the West?
- Is China the workshop of the world?
- Is the Chinese economy on course to rival the US?
- Will China be the new Imperial power?
- What do Socialists have to say?
Whilst other capitalist states have been hit hard by the global economic crisis, China doesn't seem to be feeling the effects as much. We'll be asking why that is, and we'll also look at questions like "Will China be the world's new imperial power?", "Is the Chinese economy now rivalling the USA?", "What do socialists say about China?" and, of course, "What about Tibet?". Our speaker will be Alexis Wearmouth.
This will be a really interesting meeting however much or little you know about China, so join us on Wednesday 3rd December, 4.30pm in Room S13 Institute of Education with friends, questions and beer money :)

Syria Iran mtg at UCL
After the Bush era who are the forces for stability in the Middle East; Iran, Syria or the U.S?
With the Bush administration coming to an end, this lecture looks into what the future may hold in the regional political, economic and social stability of the Middle East, and examines whether or not the balance of power will shift to regional states under the new Obama administration, or continue with the current Status Quo.
The lecture will look in particular at the roles Syria and the Islamic Republic of Iran can play in rebuilding stability in the region, and also looks into the potential ideas of how these changes can be executed.
Panelists:
Mr. Jihad Makdissi, Spokesman of the Syrian Embassy in London.
Mr. Shirvin Zeinalzadeh, Director of SZ Intelligence and Specialist in Intelligence and International Security.
Chair: Mr Pól Ó Géibheannaigh, Central Asia and Middle East Analyst.
After the main presentation, there will be an opportunity to present questions to the panel, and the floor will open for discussion.

The outbreak of war in Georgia is already a disaster for the people of the region. It risks being turned into a still broader problem by Dick Cheney's threats. The conflict is in large measure the product of George Bush's policy of US global hegemony, in the Caucasus as in the Middle East. Attempts to extend NATO eastwards, specifically incorporating Georgia, directly challenge Russian interests.
