hypocritical hyperjacking

I'm slightly amused that a big song and dance is being made of an email being 'leaked'!! Seems like the internet has a whole lot of holes in it. Maybe a rethink of how the internet actually works is in order for some people...

You are referring to the criticism by Martin Smith, SWP National Secretary, of a rank-and-file party activist for allegedly passing on an email exchange (between Smith and Lindsey German, concerning the latter's resignation from the SWP). Smith even names the comrade in a remarkable letter circulated to SWP members across the country.

I am torn between amusement and anger, but it is certainly an audacious act of hypocrisy. It was Martin Smith who last autumn obtained emails without permission, then used them to get both of us expelled, as part of a paranoid and desperate attack on minority voices inside the SWP.

What's worse, he then ensured they were published in a bulletin circulated to all members by email, which inevitably ended up on a website where anyone can read them. I can't figure out if - by attacking someone else for 'leaking' - he has absolutely no self-awareness, or if it's an elaborate hoax he's playing on party members (maybe he's thinking: 'how much of this crap will they accept and regurgitate?').

It's also worth noting that the same letter contains a number of outright lies about the Tyneside Stop the War. It seems any basic standards of integrity and honesty have been cast out. A tragic turn for the party to take.

Alex, is the letter on the net anywhere?

No, it's not. Not yet, anyway. I'm being very disciplined myself, for some reason.

Sorry to hijack the thread but ... where can I find a report the Mutiny event?

Liam Macuaid's got his own report of it up, but seem to be waiting for Clare's account. What I know is there were well over 100 people, bigger than the 1st event in September, and feedback is v positive.

heh averyps, I'm more of a reporter than a theorist so I tend to post photos, videos and short quips from demos and meetings I've been to. Hence, once you prodded me I quite quickly popped something together. And I mainly repost other peoples things, or emails I've been sent etc...

Perhaps there should be an alternative word for cutnpasters like me?!
